More than 80,000 people in over 40 countries across the world have been infected with the coronavirus.

Many countries are currently taking precautions in order to reduce the risk of infection among its population.

The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has told all schools nationwide to close from Monday until after the student’s spring break which usually ends early April.

“Efforts have been made to prevent the spread of infection among children in each region, and these one or two weeks will be an extremely critical period,

Over 200 people in Japan are now confirmed to be infected with the virus, this figure doesn’t include those who are infected from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

Dick Pound, a member of the International Olympic Committee has expressed his concern over hosting the Olympics this year in Japan.

“In and around that time, I’d say folks are going to have to ask: ‘Is this under sufficient control that we can be confident about going to Tokyo, or not?”

He suggested that there is a risk of cancellation of the event if the virus is not contained and managed by May.

Italy has now confirmed over 400 cases of the virus and 12 people have been killed from the virus since Friday. Italy now has the highest number of recorded cases for a country outside of Asia.

The cases recorded in Italy are found to be around the Northern regions of the country including the areas around Lombardy, Milan and Veneto.

Greece and Georgia have both had their first cases of the virus confirmed on Wednesday

Two new patients in the UK have been tested positive for the virus. They have been taken to specialist infection centres in Liverpool.

One of the patients caught the virus in Italy whilst the other caught it on holiday in Tenerife.

Burbage Primary school in Buxton, Derbyshire announced a temporary closure of the school after a parent of one of the children was confirmed as being infected with the virus. The school currently has said that they will provide an update later on with information about the school closure.

Buxton Medical Practice has also temporarily closed due to a confirmed case of the virus.
