A barn fire was spotted in Kergilliack near Falmouth at around 21.00 o’clock on Friday night, where animals were kept nearby.

Students from Falmouth university spotted the blaze and drove to the scene to warn residents.

An eye witness, Wesley Foster, said: “I just spotted it off the main road and thought I would investigate. Turned out that the owners of the property were completely unaware of the fire that was going on only a hundred yards away from their house. We then proceeded to call the emergency services, who turned up in commendable time.”

The animals were moved swiftly to a nearby field when emergency services arrived. The owners of the farm were concerned when they realised that nitrogen and fertiliser were being stored in the barn on fire.

Local authorities have been contacted for comment on the incident.
