The FXU Debating Union held an event on Penryn Campus last night to discuss whether students are adequately represented by the NUS.

The debate, split between six speakers, raised issues surrounding the democratisation of the NUS, its costs and its involvement with politics. The representation of students was also argued, after recent allegations of bullying by the current NUS President, Shakira Martin and anti-Semitist remarks from previous NUS Presidents.

Pros of NUS affiliation raised during the debate included their success in Council Tax exemptions and their campaigns for LGBTQ+ equality.
