Cornwall’s botanical garden, the Eden Project, will be providing a free entry offer for families this Mother’s Day.
The offer from the project, which is based in Boldeva, will see mothers and, or grandmothers getting into Eden free of charge when visiting with their children or grandchildren.
The Eden Project in Cornwall offers free entry to mothers or grandmothers this Mothering Sunday.
However, all other members of the visiting party will be required to have a valid form of admission if they are to join.
This offer may come as a result of the recent rise in Mother’s Day gift spending over recent years.
According to Statista, retail spending for the holiday has seen a sharp increase over the past two years specifically.
Between 2019 and 2021, Mother’s Day spending in the UK rose from £1.23 billion to £1.34 billion, an almost 9% increase.
The Eden Project’s offer may also come as an opportunity for many families to spend their Mother’s Day outdoors for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
A study by GlobalData showed that the percentage of Mother’s Day shoppers that were buying their gifts online had grown by 3.6 ppts since 2020, over the course of the pandemic.
The study also showed that the majority of people were heading to online shopping for Mother’s Day at 34%, with supermarkets and specialty stores coming in at 28% and 26% respectively.
So, with this sudden shift in Mother’s Day purchases, the Eden Project has looked to go against the grain and provide a different experience for mothers this year.
