Falmouth Rugby Club is hoping to help aleviate the Falmouth housing crisis by gaining planning permission to build 230 houses on land it currently owns alongside Bickland Water Road.

Cornwall council have previously dismissed plans due to its impact on the town’s infrastructure, flooding risk and highway safety on Bickland Water Road.

James Instance, the club’s vice-chairman, told Cornwall Live that he was “disappointed” that the plans were dismissed and felt the site was a “casualty” because several sites in Falmouth were reallocated from potential student housing sites to residential and this meant enough homes could be provided elsewhere.

He also added that the application has 143 letters of support and just over a dozen objections.

A meeting is due to be held this Thursday by Cornwall Councils strategic planning committee to discuss the plans.
